Our IGR drive not to impose new taxes on Kwarans – Gov Ahmed

Contrary to the insinuations that Kwara State Government is about to introduce new taxes with its new Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) policy, the state’s Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Wednesday, said the move is not to impose new taxes on the residents.

Ahmed made the clarification in his address during the presentation of staff of office to the new Emir of Ilesha Baruba in Baruten Local Government Area, Professor Halidu Abubakar, yesterday.

He stated that his administration is bent on improving the state coffin in order to enable his government embarked on several developmental projects that would have impact on the people.

Ahmed explained that the mandate of Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) is to change the process of collecting existing taxes by deploying technology to block loopholes and increase efficiency.

He stressed that with increased revenue; his administration would complete existing projects, establish new ones in all sectors as well as inject additional N2bn into entrepreneurship development scheme.

To this end, the governor, however, called for support and maximum cooperation of Kwarans to enable his administration achieve success in all areas highlighted within the next four years.

The governor urged the new Emir to serve as a builder of bridges of harmony and peace among the people of his domain and beyond.

The Emir of Ilesha Baruba, in his acceptance speech, pledged not to betray the confidence the people of the Emirate and the state government reposed in him.

Abubakar, who is the 28th Emir of Ilesha Baruba, assured the state government that the people of his Emirate would support the realisation of the government’s programmes and policies.
