Kogi Gov Poll: APC supporters storm party secretariat, oppose Audu’s emergence

Dozens of placard-carrying protesters on Wednesday besieged the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress to protest against the emergence ‎of Abubakar Audu as the party’s governorship candidate.

Audu defeated 27 other contestants to emerge as the party’s flag bearer in the forthcoming Kogi State governorship election.

While the candidate was waiting to collect his certificate of return, scores of protesters, carrying placards, stormed the gate of the secretariat, urging the party to get a credible candidate to fly its flag.

Some of the placards had such inscriptions like ‎’Kogi State say no to Audu’, ‘We need a credible leader’, ‘APC, do the right thing’.

Leader of the protesters, who gave his name as Sulaiman Mohammed, told newsmen that the people of the state deserved a better candidate.

Audu’s supporters, who were still inside the party secretariat with their principal, were still being mobilised as of the time of this report.

It would be recalled that Audu emerged the APC’s guber candidate for the November 20 gubernatorial election in the state having defeated other 26 contestants.

Audu, who was the first civilian governor of the state defeated other aspirants including, Yahaya Bello.

He Audu won the majority with 1,109 votes of the 3044 votes in the party primary election that ended around 4:00 am.

Yahaya Bello polled a total of 703 votes while Tim Nda Diche had 13 votes; Yakub Mohammed 1 vote; Sunday Edibo 1 vote; Sulaiman Abutu 2 votes and Clarence Olafemi 7 votes.

Mohammed Abdullahi polled a total of 11 votes; Saliu Atawodi 183 votes; Baba Ali Suleiman 28 votes and Nicholas Ugbani had 8 votes.
