Again, Court refuses Yinka Are’s bail over ‘Culpable Homicide’

For the second time, an Ilorin Magistrate Court yesterday refused bail of Alhaji Olayinka Sulieman Are, aged 53, who was charged with alleged Culpable Homicide.

The suspect, who was re-arraigned on Wednesday was facing six count charge, including Criminal conspiracy, obstructing police officers while performing their lawful duty, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, illegal possession of fire arms and culpable homicide contrary to sections 97, 149, 248, 327, 2(3) of robbery and firearm (special provision) Act R11law of Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 and 221 of Penal Code Law. The frail-looking suspect had pleaded not guilty when first arraigned before the court. The Police Prosecutor, Jubril Alhassan told the court yesterday that investigation on the matter was in progress. He opposed bail to the suspect. While entering the court room, the weak accused person was aided by two Prison officers. He entered the court room at 10: 05am and left by 12:09 pm. In his ruling, Magistrate I.O Olawoyin refused the bail of the accused person and ordered his continue remand at Federal Prison Custody, Oke-Kura. The matter was adjourned till September 16. A Police First Information Report (FIR) charging the suspect had said the matter was transferred from National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Ilorin to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin for discreet investigation. The FIR alleged that some hoodlums had attacked one Anafi Muhammed Olatunji, an NDLEA officer along Idi- Ape Area with some dangerous weapons, fired guns sporadically and resulting in some hitting two unidentified men who died on the spot while the NDLEA officer escaped. The hoodlums were allegedly led by one Ariyo, the kingpin of the thugs of Idi -Ape Area. According to the FIR, the hoodlums proceeded to the officer's family house at Agbarere area Ilorin and set his family house ablaze. One inspector Muhammed Raheem was also allegedly attacked on his head, the FIR alleged. “...On 24/7/15 one Olayinka Suleiman Are, who was identified by the victim was arrested by the community conspired with others now at large and attacked one Anafi Muhammed Olatunji NDLEA officer along Idi- Ape area Ilorin where you shot two unidentified men to death , inflicted injury on one Inspr. Muhammed Raheem and proceeded to Agbarere area where you set several houses ablaze and destroyed many properties worth millions of naira,” the FIR also alleged.
