The management of the University of Ilorin at the weekend dispelled reports that some candidates were turned back from the venue of the post-UTME screening exercise over dress-code violation.

Some media outfits (National Pilot not inclusive) had reported that 35 admission seekers were turned back during the weeklong pre-admission exercise held in the institution and Lagos State last week.

A statement made available to Pilot Education by UNILORIN's Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, said “there is no iota of truth in the newspaper reports that 35 female candidates were disallowed from participating in the pre-admission screening on the basis of indecent dressing.”

The statement said: “None of the candidates dressed indecently, as they were already aware of our dress code, which they must have read from the handbook we gave them and also from the post-UTME instruction uploaded on the University website”.

“Even some of the candidates who wore short skirts to the screening centre were only counselled that such mode of dressing was not compliant with the university's dress code. None of them was turned back.”

Akogun, however, explained that “the few candidates that were turned back were those who came to the CBT Centre without the print-outs of their examination schedule, a situation that made proper identification impossible.

He added, “even at that, we didn't send them out of the campus, they were only directed to where they could get the schedule printed out nearby, and those who could still bring their print-outs were still allowed into the examination halls”.

While thanking the media for their cooperation with the university management in its bid to build a world-class university, Akogun urged them to be wary of misinformation from enemies of progress.
