The chances of former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, gunning for the number one seat of football governing body, FIFA got a boost on Sunday as former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, threw his weight behind his candidature.

Babangida made this disclosure when he briefed newsmen as part of plans to mark his 74th birthday at his Uphill Mansion in Minna, Niger State.

When asked about his opinion? On his political godson gunning for football's number one seat, Babangida said: “He has my support?”

He added “Kalu has countless of achievements to show from his performance as two-time governor of Abia State. He made Enyimba what they are today.

“It was through his effort that Nigeria broke the CAF Champions' League jinx. He won the competition twice as well as the Super Cup. I will vote for him. I don't think it is a bad outing.

“His interest in sports, especially in football and the successes recorded with Enyimba Football Club, actually brought the club to the limelight.

“If his contribution is recognised outside this country, there is nothing wrong in saying that he should run for FIFA Presidency. If I have a vote, I will cast my vote for him.”
