Lawmaker charges youths on ICT

A member of the Kwara state House of Assembly representing Ilorin North-West state constituency, Hon. AbdulRafiu AbdulRahman, has charged youths in the state to move with international trend by being ICT compliant in other to be able to compete favourably in the ever competitive global market.

AbdulRafiu made the call while commissioning his constituency project, a free ICT centre named 'AA ICT centre' at Taiwo road Ilorin beside defunct Society General Bank, on Monday.

AbdulRahman while speaking with this medium after the commissioning, described the ICT centre which he said gulped over N2million as one of the ways of giving back to the electorates.

He said the centre which he described as his liaison office would help to make the youths ICT compliant and also offer free internet services for various registrations ranging from Tertiary institution's registrations (Post UTME and returning students), O'level registration, Military and para-military registrations among others.

“These efforts are borne out of my conviction that youths are potential assets for the development of any society. Youths are important stakeholders in the society, hence my intervention to provide them a platform to be ICT compliant.

“Our free ICT youth empowerment training programme are in two folds, free mobile computer training which will take us to the Seven wards of the constituency for a three month intensive ICT training after which certificates will be issued. While the second phase is the AA ICT centre which offers free internet services.

“Free computer software pilot training will commence at the central point in each of the seven wards for ten eligible youths, the training will last for 3 months with a diploma certificate in data processing, Free internet services for youths of Ilorin North-West constituency at the liaison office located in Taiwo.

AbdulRafiu expressed optimism that at the end of pilot exercise over 400 youths would have benefited from the free training who would have acquired required skills to be self employed and also be employer of labour.

Meanwhile Honourable Abdulrafiu Abdulrahman has promised to always operate an open door policy by feeling the pulse of the electorates.

He made this pledge when he visited Oloje ward on Monday, during his “Thank You Tour” of the seven wards making up Ilorin North-West constituency.

All Progressives Congress (APC) members who welcomed him prayed and requested his assistance to help facilitate employment for youths of the ward.

In his comment, a member of the party, Mr Issa Dauda thanked the Honourable for being a youth friendly lawmaker by setting up a free ICT centre and implored him to employ youths from Oloje ward as staff of the ICT centre. While also appealing that he help party members in the ward secure employment.

Another speaker, Alhaji Babatunde Elesin, the chairman of Oloje ward thanked the lawmaker for finding time to visit the ward and promised unalloyed support for him.
