KWSG commends Sight Savers in combating eye diseases

The Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Abdulrafiu Ayinla, has lauded the meritorious efforts of the Sight Savers International over delivery of quality, accessible and affordable health care services to Kwarans.

Ayinla gave the commendation while speaking at a 3-day training workshop tagged "Neglected tropical disease; river blindness, elephantiasis, schistosomiasis and de-worming of school age children held at Kwara state Ministry of Health during the week.

The Perm Sec, who was represented by Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply in the Ministry, Hajia Aminat Ahmed, highlighted the efforts of the NGO on health workers training, provision of vehicles and motorcycles, which are used in distributing drugs and ICT material to health facilities among other institutionalised health programmes such as eye care, which she said is now sustainable in the state.

"The meritorious effort of the Sight Savers International in delivery of quality accessible and affordable healthcare services to people of Kwara State have very commendable", he said.

He emphasised the state government's satisfaction on various support programmes of the NGO at eliminating neglected tropical diseases in the state.

He added that the state government would continue to provide a conducive environment for other willing partners in health care delivery.

Ayinla however enjoined the participants to maximise the training benefit and ensure other health personnel benefit from it.

Earlier, the training Coordinator, Mr Funsho Oyinloye, had disclosed that it was aimed at planning 2015 mass drug administration, review of 2014 drug distribution and to produce a work plan for 2015.

Oyinloye also said the workshop has the objective of training health workers in the state towards the elimination of neglect tropical disease.
