Unlike other schools that use to mark their sports day with sports like football, athletics, table tennis and other games, ITREE International Preparatory School, Adewole Estate, Ilorin took another dimension to celebrate the day, as they visit Ilorin Golf Club for a golf competition.
The programme, which was held last Thursday at the Ilorin Golf Club started by 10:am with the Primary and Secondary students of the school competing in golf competition in different categories, three to eight years, eight to 13 and 15-18 years.

Apart from the golf tournament that was displayed for about three hours, the school also introduced as well as question and answer segment, and dancing competition.
Finally, awards were presented in various categories to the first, second and third position respectively that took part in the golf competition. Parents were also not excluded in the programme, as they involved in dancing competition to add value to the sports fiesta.
Speaking after the programme, the Proprietor of the school Mrs Evelyn Omolade Balogun said she wanted to create awareness of golf game to the children at the primary and secondary school level.
“I wanted to create awareness for the children for them to understand that golf game is something that is very important for them because it helps them to develop their minds and their livelihood.
Balogun who is also the Ladies Captain of Ilorin Golf Club emphasised the need for children to involve in the game at the early stage.
“In my school, we have a small area where we play the game so that we can actually be part of it. My students are very lucky because I'm a golfer and I know the importance of the game that is why I created an enabling environment for my children to do it”, she said.
She also corrects the notions that the golf equipment is very expensive and also stressed the need for the parents to invest in their children.
“We have about four or five golf bats for children so they don't need to buy the equipment, what they need to do is to come around, we have the pole here that they can play with. It's actually not expensive, the parents just need to invest in their children so that they can become a world stars tomorrow. Look at William sisters; they are world known stars that is why our parents should know that their priority is to invest in their children. My advice for the parents is to bring their children to golf club and see how they can evaluate the game”, she advised.
