The emergence of Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos state has been described as a temporary peace in the crisis that has engulfed the National Assembly.

Gbajabiamila emerged as House leader last week after a protracted tussle between his camp and the camp of the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara.

Dogara was reportedly under pressure from the party to announce Gbajabiamila as the house leader after meeting with the party hierarchy, including the president.

According to a serving lawmaker from the North Central region, who spoke with this medium from Abuja yesterday on the issue on condition of anonymity, most of the lawmakers who had supported the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara's emergence were not carried along before the decision was made.

The source, who maintained that Dogara's emergence failed to take care of the South-East region of the country in terms of appointment, said the issue might degenerate when it's time to constitute the committees in the House.

“The peace for now is temporary and I can tell you that the appointment of House committee may be another ground for hostilities between both camps.

The peace for now is a marriage of cat and rat and for now, he (Dogara) is acting like he has a mind of his own. This was not what we expected.

“He has disappointed many of those who fought the battle with him in the early stages of the house crisis.”

“With Gbajabiamila as House leader, it might be difficult to get off some of our programmes”.

Meanwhile, Hon Abubakar Amuda Kannike, a member from Kwara state has been nominated in the selection committee of the Federal House of Representative.

A serving member of the house, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said that each state is expected to nominate a candidate each in the selection committee.
