Aviation agencies have been enjoined to advance the collective interest of safety, security and efficiency in their operations. They have also been called upon to exercise their regulatory authority to inspire confidence and stimulate growth.

This statement was made on Saturday in Lagos by Hajia Binta Adamu Bello, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation during an unscheduled tour to the Murtala Muhammed International airport, Lagos.

According to her “all hands must be on deck to ensure adherence to safety and security”.

She further stated that all operations must conform with established laws and regulations in line with ICAO standards. The Permanent Secretary, who said she's in Lagos to see things for herself following reports of safety concerns, however assured that there was no cause for alarm.

She charged the heads of the aviation agencies to exercise their standard setting and regulatory authority towards promoting professional excellence and industry growth.

Hajia Bello, who was accompanied by Engr. Hassan Musa, Director, Air Transport Management, Dr. Ibrahim Idris, Director, Planning, Research & Statistics and other senior professionals from the Ministry, was received by CEOs of all the Aviation Agencies, including the NCAA, FAAN, NAMA and AIB.

She undertook an extensive tour of the safety and security infrastructure on the air side. Meanwhile, contractors working on the Benin Airport have been called upon to adhere strictly to specification and high standards in the on-going rehabilitation of the Benin Runway.
