Saraki mourns as Saleh, ex-SGF, dies at 82

A former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), and finance minister, Aminu Saleh died yesterday. He was 82.

Mr. Saleh, who served as the SGF under the Sani Abacha military government, died at the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi state, Wednesday morning after a protracted illness.

According to a family source, Aminu Saleh will be buried on Wednesday evening according to Islamic rites.

Aminu Saleh was born in 1933 in Azare, Katagum LG, Bauchi State.

He attended his elementary school in Azare between 1941 and 1944. He attended Bauchi middle school (1944-49), clerical training college Zaria, (1950-51).

He attended the Institute of Administration, Zaria, and earned a diploma in accounting 1957.

He was on an evening university degree course in University of Lagos 1963-67 .He had attended post graduate course in management in University of Wisconsin in USA.

He is survived by one wife, 13 children and grandchildren. Among the children are Kabiru Saleh, his eldest son and the immediate past deputy Governor of Bauchi state; and Sagir Saleh

Meanwhile, the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki yesterday expressed sadness over the death of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Aminu Saleh.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sanni Onogu, Saraki described the late Saleh as `an exemplary public officer, who contributed immensely to the growth and development of the country.’

“Late Saleh was one public officer who was very diligent and patriotic in the discharge of his duties to the fatherland,” he said.

He commiserated with the government, immediate family and people of Bauchi State on the demise of the former SGF and prayed Almighty God to grant Saleh eternal rest.
