Marketers in Kwara State have called on the state government to come to their aid with provision of loan facility as succour against the hardship they face regarding current economic situation in the country.
The male market Leader in the state, Alhaji Sanni Jimoh made the appeal while speaking with Pilot Business on Tuesday and lamented that in the past few months; marketers have not recorded ample sales let alone make huge profits due to the economic situation in the country.
The development, according to Jimoh, has prompted them to look up to government for assistance, particularly in terms of revolving loan for their members.
He said that the appeal became imperative so as to remind government to be able to redeem its earlier 100 million naira pledge for their members to lift their businesses and reduce their sufferings.
"The state government have been supportive so far but they should please give us the loan as promised because it will go a long way to help the marketers in the state. There are about 170 markets in Kwara State and the main challenge hindering the markets development is capital", Jimoh stated.
The market leader regretted that since government promised the intervention fund, it has caused series of accusation and counter accusation from the marketers with members thinking the money has been embezzled by the executives.
He however advised members to adequately prepare to use the fund appropriately if granted by the government for the intending purposes.
