The hearing yesterday began on the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Kwara Central Senatorial, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Abdulrasak against Senator Bukola Saraki of the All Progressives Congress (APC), began yesterday before the Legislative Houses Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ilorin.
The PDP candidate in the petition NAT/LEC/EPT/IL/2/2015 is asking the three-man tribunal chaired by Justice Josiah Majebi to declare him the winner of the March 28 Kwara Central Senatorial election, claiming to have won the majority votes cast during the election.
Petitioner's Counsels led by John Obumse opened the case on Wednesday by calling the first witness, Mr Oloyin Lateef Adebayo, who is also the Private Personal Assistant (PPA) to the petitioner.
Adebayo, who testified before the Tribunal, alleged that there was “massive fraud” in the election.
The witness also alleged that the electoral guidelines with regard to incident accreditation form where card reader fails, was not followed.
The Petitioner's aide was cross-examined by Respondents Counsel, Yusuf Ola-Olu Ali SAN, Alarape Salman SAN and Barrister Abdulwahab Bamidele.
However, the Petitioner’s Counsel asked for adjournment to enable them collect print-outs from card readers at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters, Abuja.
Obumse expressed hope that the print-outs would be obtained within the adjournment day to ensure petitioner continue to prove his case.
Respondent’s Counsel did not oppose the application.
In his ruling, Justice Majebi granted the application and adjourned the petition till July 31, 2015 for continuation of hearing.
