Court remands man, 27, for raping minor

An Ilorin Magistrate Court has remanded a 27 year old man, Lukman Salihu for alleged attempt rape of a 15 year old girl in Ilorin.

The accused person was arraigned for two count charges of gross indecency and procurement of minor girl contrary to section 285 and 275 of penal code law.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) alleged that case was consequent upon a compliant by one Adijat Bolanle of Gambari area Ilorin, who reported at 'C' Division Police Station Oja- Oba, Ilorin.

The complaint was said to have reported that on July 19, 2019 she was informed that the suspect was having love affairs with her daughter (name withheld).

According to the FIR, during the interrogation of the mother, she daughter confessed that Lukman Salihu had "sexual intercourse with her twice in his apartment at Ile Lima compound Gambari Area,Ilorin."

The police further hinted that during the preliminary investigation, Lukman Salihu confessed to the alleged crime.

The accused person pleaded not guilty when arraigned before the court.

The Prosecutor, Godwin Azua said investigation on the matter had not been concluded.

He also asked to court to remand the suspect, saying that he would likely tamper with the police investigation if admitted to bail.

The Defendant Counsel, Mr Olagunju Ridwan urged the court to admit the accused person to bail.

He argued that accused person is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty by competent court.

In his ruling, Mr J Saliu remanded the accused person at the Federal Prison Custody, Mandalla and adjourned the case till August, 3, 2015.
