Kwara NULGE may suspend strike, tomorrow

Indications have emerged that the recent industrial action embarked on by Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) might be suspended tomorrow (Tuesday), Pilot Business has gathered.

It was gathered that the decision would be taken as a result of N1.4billion intervention funds from the Federal Government, which has been shared among the 16LGs as well as the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
It would be recalled that the union embarked on strike last week Wednesday across the 16 local government areas in the state as a result of their unpaid salaries running to several months.
Speaking with NULGE State Chairman, Comrade Adamu Umar shortly after a meeting at the Ministry of Finance, last Thursday, stating that state executives would meet on Tuesday to decide their next line of action.
He said that though there have been series of meeting between the state government and the union on the need to dialogue on the impending issue, promising that soon they would let people know the outcome.
"We are going to hold an Executive meeting on Tuesday to brief all stakeholders on the resolution of our meeting with the state government and decide the next line of action", he said.
According to him, the N1.4billions intervention funds had already been shared among the 16LGs and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) from the bailout from the Federal Government.
On his part, the State Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Barrister Lateef Okandeji urged the council chairmen to make judicious use of the funds, especially to settle their outstanding debt.
He reiterated that the fund was not meant for expenditure and other financial obligation but strictly to pay salary.
Okandeji re-assured all stakeholders that the association would continue to canvass for the progress and prosperity of the state and country at large.
