We’ll flush out bad eggs in our education sector - Education Scribe

Worried by the falling standard of secondary education in the area, the Ilorin West Local Government Council in Kwara State has pledged to introduce measures with a view to improve learning and teaching in its secondary schools.

To achieve the objective, the council stated that it would henceforth ensure thorough supervision of its schools from time to time to enable it assess the Principals, Vice Principals and teachers on the field in various schools.

The Ilorin West Local Government Education Secretary, Alhaji Saka Animashaun stated this in his address at the maiden interactive meeting organised for the Vice Principals in the local government, adding that the council is determined to address the rot in the system.

Stressing that to achieve the set goals depends on the pro-activeness of every stakeholders involved, Animashaun also called for change of attitudes from the principals to the vice principals and teachers.

Noting that the interactive session became imperative with a view of discussing the way forward, the education scribe lamented that investigations revealed that some teachers don't even write lesson notes again and they are being allowed to go scot free by the schools management.

He maintained that the issue of discipline would be taken seriously by the council, as it is believed that whatever they are doing in their various schools would have direct impact on the students.

Therefore, Animashaun warned that the council would not hesitate to flush out bad eggs among either the principals, vice principals or teachers in the local government educational system in order to have a safe future.

The education scribe advised principals, vice principals and most importantly the teachers to always read wide as it would further improve them on the job and ensure they impacted positively on the students.

Earlier, the Chairman, Ilorin West Branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers' (NUT), Comrade Saka Ayinla Iresi who harped on unity between the vp's and their principals said that it when there is cooperation among them that they could effect positive change in their various schools.

Some of the participants who spoke lamented that they have not been able to achieve results in their respective schools because some teachers believed they got their appointments through the politicians and therefore do whatever they like in the schools.

They however appealed to the council through the education secretary to come to their aid in order to tackle the challenges facing them in their various schools.
