Ramadan: Emir of Ilorin constitutes 22-man festival committee

Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari yesterday constituted a 22-man festival committee to mark the end of Ramadan in the state.

The Emir said the festival, which would be a yearly event as a cultural practice, was designed to foster peace and unity in Kwara.

The Emir noted that it was only an atmosphere of peace that can usher in progress and rapid socio-economic development.

The monarch said the Ilorin emirate, as an Islamic community, can lend the world the culture of peace and good neighbourliness, according to the teachings of Islam and Prophet Muhammed.

He, therefore, charged the committee to explore ways of reaching out to all the 16 local government areas in Kwara, in order to sustain the existing harmonious relationships among residents of the state.

The event, scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 at the Emir’s Palace would have Alhaji Jimoh Garba, who has assured the monarch that the committee members will strive to justify the confidence reposed in them, as chairman.

Garba commended the Emir for being proactive and for the tremendous growth and development witnessed by the emirate and prayed for continued peaceful co-existence in the state.

Other members of the committee are: Malam Abdullahi Garba, Saheed Alaya, Shehu Oniyangi, Sulyman Onigbari, Muhammad Sebutu, Toyin Makana, Sulaiman Kawu, Abdulrasaq Olomoda, Nurudeen Alao, Issa Atere and Ustaz Imam Ahmed.

The list also included: Abdullahi Ali, Abdulwaheed Ipapo, Ibrahim Sekoni, Mr AbdulKadir Jamiu, Idris Danmaigoro, Abdulwahab Akanbi, Malam Malik Olokoto, Solihu Solihu and Sulyman Ajao.
