The Federal Government has said that 13 airports across the country were being fitted with airfield lighting for improved productivity and enhanced operations.

This was contained in a statement by Mr Yakubu Dati, General Manager, Public Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), at Weekend in Abuja. The statement said the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Mr Osita Chidoka, made the disclosure during the inauguration of the Common User Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) at the Muritala Mohammed Airport, Lagos recently. It said the minister further promoted the concept of one aviation, stating that “safety security and comfort must be above board” at the event. “According to him, the concept of Measurement, Monitoring and Improvement (MMI) had become inevitable if the country's aviation industry must move forward. “The Common User Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) installed by Bicourtney Aviation Services operators of Muritala Mohammed Airport Domestic Terminal II, is the first of its kind in the country,” it said. The statement added that the Chairman of Bicourteny Aviation Services Ltd, Dr Wale Babalakin, commended government for its support. It said that the minister also inaugurated the self check-in kiosk, screening point and check-in counters at the Terminal. “The occasion was attended by aviation stakeholders and service providers,” the statement added.
