*Saraki should institute legal action - IEDPU
Reactions have continued to trail the negative publications against the person of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki since his emergence as the President of the 8th senate on June 9.
According to the Kwara State Chairman of APC, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani, in a telephone interview with this medium yesterday, the allegation is the lowest ebb of journalism, saying the hallmark of a good journalist and medium is getting its fact right and cross- checking same.
Balogun-Fulani however chastised Saharareporters for its penchant for taking its readers for a ride by always publishing fake stories, which often times are libellous in nature.
He enjoined the national leadership of the APC to as a matter of urgency, stop the slide by quickly reconciling warring factions and for the party to face the multi-faceted problems bedevilling the country as a united front.
“One is not surprise that Saharareporter and The Nations newspaper is daily attacking the person of Senator Bukola Saraki, because they are only voicing the opinion of their pay masters. He who pays the piper dictates the tune.
“The Nation Newspaper and Saharareporters have lost its credibility as it has allowed interest of its patrons becloud its sense of reportage, Nigerians no longer trust the authenticity of the stories they read on both medium...
...“In as much as there is freedom of information and speech, both medium must however be conscious of infringing on other peoples' rights.
“Tinubu want to lord himself over Nigerians by approbating and reprobating, he must understand that he is no more in a regional party where his dictates are law, as a member of the APC, he now has other leaders from various parts of the country to liaise with. They are supposed to take all decisions in the interest of the nation.
Balogun-Fulani however enjoined all stakeholders and lovers of Nigeria to come onboard towards ensuring the APC's campaign promises are delivered.
He also advised APC to get down to work and stop apportioning blame, adding that “We all have a share of the blame in not quickly nipping in the bud the crisis in the party earlier on,” he surmised.
Also speaking on the allegation of Saraki's citizenship, Chairman, Ilorin Emirate Forum, Borgu branch, Abdulrasaq Ishola Olounbasiri, described the report as the height of irresponsibility on the part of Saharareporters for doubting the nationality and citizenship of the Senate President.
Olounbasiri said, Bukola Saraki's citizenship is not in doubt because he comes from a popular and illustrious family with its family house at the popular Agbaji quarters in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Ilorin metropolis.
“Bukola Saraki is a bonafide son of Ilorin; he is from a well respected family, which has contributed to the growth of the country in the medical profession, business and politics among other fields, in which the family has made its mark.
“Agbaji quarter, in Ilorin West Local Government of the state, is reputed to have produced professionals in different fields, so the Saharareporters' story is nothing but the height of irresponsibility,” he added.
The National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressives Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulhamid Hadi, also in a telephone interview with this medium however advised the gladiators to settle down to work and stop fighting over positions, adding that Nigerians voted them to better its lot and not to go and fight over positions.
Hadi, however enjoined Saharareporters to always cross check its reports by doing thorough investigation before going to the press.
“It is nothing but politics; let them come out with evidences to prove otherwise, it is unreasonable that someone who was a two-term governor, a two-term Senator, to now be accused of not being eligible by virtue of citizenship, only when he won the Senate Presidency seat.
“As far as we are concerned, they are only playing politics by posting so many libellous articles on the net and social media, with the aim of tarnishing his image, they are nothing but yellow journalists, without substance as they lack credibility in investigation. Bukola's indigeneship of Ilorin is not in doubt because he is a native of Ilorin,” he added.
He however described the tales of bad publicity against the person of Bukola Saraki as unexpected, alluding to the pre-presidential election, where Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), African Independent Television (AIT), among other media houses were airing contents damaging to the person of President Muhammed Buhari.
“Even Tinubu had to drag AIT to the court where he sued them for libel before the orgy of bad reportage against him was stopped; I am advising Bukola Saraki to, if offended take legal action against the news medium.
