Review teachers' allowance, LG urged

Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Ilorin West Branch has elected its new executives that would direct the union's affairs for the next four years. Delivering his address of stewardship recently at Ansarul Islam Primary School, Ilorin, the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Issa Sidiq Abubakar appreciated members' support and other executive members for the success recorded in the last four years in office.

Abubakar noted that without their cooperation, support and understanding the outgoing exco would not have been able to achieve anything, thanking members for the opportunity accorded him to serve the association. As parts of his achievements, he said that his administration was able to procure a vehicle for administrative use of the association with contributions of members to reduce the problems of transportation. He however implored teachers not to hesitate to update their knowledge through series of seminars, workshops and conferences for development of the education sector at primary level. Abubakar urged the authority concerned on upward review of head teachers allowances, based on the state of economy, noting that member's welfares means a lot to the union. Speaking, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ilorin West Chapter, Comrade Saka Ayinla Iresi, described the head teachers of the council as administrators par excellence in the training of trainers and trainees adjudged to be the leaders of tomorrow. Iresi pointed out that teaching is a deliberate attempt to impart knowledge, skills and values to less experienced individuals by well-trained-experienced persons for creating effective and psych motive enabling environment for positive achievement of the latter. Also speaking, the newly elected Chairman, Alhaji Ishaq Temim, who promised to discharge his duties effectively, said his administration would strive to build on the achievements of the outgoing union's executives.
