Kwara Poly honours ex-student over NYSC Presidential award

Kwara State Polytechnic on Saturday honoured a 2013 National Youth Service Corps (NSYC) Presidential Award, Mr Akeem Ojetola, who is a graduate of Banking and Finance from the institution.

Ojetola, who served in Abia State between 2011 and 2012, was one of those corps members honoured by the immediate past president Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking at the reception organised jointly for the institution's medallists, at 2014 Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's Second Term Athletics, the Rector, Alhaji Mas'ud Elelu, noted that the students have written their alma mater's name in gold.
"Mr Akeem Ojetola has passed through the Kwara State Polytechnic and allowed the polytechnic to pass through him. I want to say this polytechnic has given him enabling environment to discover himself.
"I recognise performances of the awardees. They have represented us effectively at various capacities. And today, history is made and will be forever and ever.
The Rector, however, promised the institution's support for the former corps members at any point in time, while challenging the sports honourees to merge sports performances with academic excellence.
The Registrar, Pastor Moses Salami, remarked that the honour done to the institution by the students was worthy of celebration and being showcased.
Responding, the NYSC Presidential Awardee thanked the management of the institution for the reception, saying "I'm honoured and I feel very happy"
Meanwhile, as part of its efforts to improve on the security network within the campus, the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has introduced the use of jackets for Okada riders and stickers for vehicles and Keke Maigida operating within the Polytechnic.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the deputy Rector (Academics), Engr. Ahmed Aminu, disclosed that the main objective is for easy identification of the vehicles/motorcycle operating within the Polytechnic.
Aminu lauded the transporters union in the Polytechnic for their cooperation and understanding, urging them to strive towards improving on service delivery and be security conscious to avoid miscreants from hijacking their operation.
The Deputy Rector also advised students to desist from boarding vehicles by the road side, adding that Students' Union Government should organise sensitisation workshop for students on the dangers inherent in such act.
Responding, Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kwara Poly Branch, Mr. Emmanuel Kayode and his counterpart from Oja-Oba branch, Mr. Abdulwaheed Olateju, appreciated efforts of the management in improving the security network within the campus.
They, however, urged the school authority to increase the number of security personnel at the school motor park for proper coordination of the students while boarding vehicles, as well as to ensure proper parking of vehicles by the drivers
The chairman, who urged all members of NURTW, Keke Maigida operators and Okada riders to obtain the stickers and jackets, called on the management of the Polytechnic to ban unauthorised commercial vehicles from entering the Polytechnic.
