I understand the present political game surrounding the candidacy of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki for Senate president as one of the most tricky in recent times. It must be played with wits and caution.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) as presently and firmly established, is a popular party that promises to rule the country fairly well with justice and equity as its forte. In this connection all patriotic members of the party must rally round the leadership of the party to deliver the benefits of democracy for Nigeria. The president, Muhammadu Buhari stands tall both physically and spiritually to spearhead the great race towards the total salvation of the country from the anguish and malady of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government since its inception in 1999. Adding value to the political solidarity of the APC as a pride worthy political party of the moment is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He brought colour, gait, raw intelligence and common sense to match the discipline martial courage, transparency and charisma of Muhammadu Buhari. The duo without an iota of doubt is a fitting tribute to the potentially great party, both now and in the future, if all and sundry will give it the chance it requires so desperately. As the situation stands today, Nigeria cannot afford to put a wedge in the sterling relationship of the two some personalities. However, with the current war cry or political pugilism amongst the three contenders for the post of the senate presidency the party authority should sit up and manage the crisis equitably. From his well-rooted position in Kwara state, Dr. Bukola Saraki is a leader to envy. In addition, he has contributed immensely to the impressive success of the party at the last elections granted his short entry into the APC from the derailed PDP. Under the normal circumstance, people would expect some automatic payback to his weighty contribution to the party and its hierarchy. Alas political calculation is not like the mathematical exactitude. The senate arena is now messy and testy. It is in that light that one would wish the legislators to play the game with all the norms and regulations of fairness and sportsmanship. The Kwarans as a political entity or community wish their leader all the best to enable him clinch the victory and bring the senate presidential trophy to the state. There are prayers galore across the state. Thus, everyone here believes Bukola Saraki richly deserves the post. All said and done however, there is a great challenge for Bukola Saraki (aka 'Sai Leader') in Kwara state. He should put his incredible faculty at work where his connection with the president is connected. By extension he should mend fences where found porous. He should ensure that the wedlock between him and the party leadership remains vibrant, intact and untarnished. May God give him the wisdom and fortitude to do so. For what God has joined together let no man put asunder. Sanda, is a former General Manger, The Herald
