The Principal, Barakat Community Junior Secondary School, Ilorin, Mallam Pakata Abdulrahaman, has urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school wherever they find themselves. Abdulrahaman challenged them to see their first segment of their secondary education as beginning of the race, adding that they should not forget legacies the school has laid. He spoke during the Prize Giving Day, Awards of Excellence to Distinguished Personalities and Sent-Forth of a retired staff held on Tuesday. On the school's performance, he remarked: “With the good works and unrelenting efforts of the teachers, we are proud of our students as they have been performing excellently well in Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), in which we recorded 86 percent success with credits in the core subjects. The school has won prizes in many competitions, debates, quiz and sports organised by government and private sectors.” The Principal, however, identified insecurity due to in-completed fence construction, lack of benches and chairs for students and teachers, lack of laboratory equipments as part of challenges confronting the school. Abdulrahaman remarked that the selected awardees have contributed to the school and the society at large, hence, their efforts deserve appreciation. Responding on behalf of other graduands, the Head Boy thanked the school's Principal and teachers for their love and care, saying “our teachers have tried their best over us in terms of academic, moral and many other things that I may not mention...” Among awardees are the National President, Ilorin Emirate Descendant Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulhamid Adi; the Ubandawki of Pakata, Alhaji Abdulgafar Baba Mahmud; Principal of Queen Elizabeth School, Alhaja Abdulrahaman Rahmat Olabisi; a retired staffer, Alhaja Jatto Muslimat; the Parent Teachers' Association (PTA) Chairman, Barakat Junior School, Alhaji Umar Saliu Baba-Offa and his Secondary School counterpart, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Olanrewaju.
