God asked me to commit suicide – 70-yr-old Offa woman who sliced throat with blade

A 70-year old woman, Saratu Rahman, who committed suicide last Wednesday in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, explained why she killed herself using razor blade while narrating the misery at the point of death. An audio record obtained by Pilot Crime contained self-narration of the deceased at the point of death where she claimed “God asked to commit suicide.” Rahman, who sells provision in front of her rented two bed-rooms flat, opposite Avalom Hotel in Offa, was said to have committed suicide when nobody was around to rescue her. The mother of four, (two boys, two girls), fondly called Iya ogbomoso, was said to have been rushed to Lamode hospital shortly after the incident and she was treated for two days before she gave up the ghost. The deceased while speaking in the audio obtained Pilot Crime, said: "I’m the only one at home nobody came in to kill me. I used a razor blade to commit the suicide. Please allow me to die; I don't want to live in this world again. I’m tired of this place. "My mother please receive me, am in pain please let me die, am not fighting anybody, am not hungry I have a shop which am running and I make money through the shop. God said I should kill myself. "If I see Mukaila my son I will not die again, call him for me; I want to see Mukàila". A source who pleaded anonymity told Pilot Crime that when Mukàila was called “he claimed that he is not coming home and that the mother should die if she wants to.” A Good Samaritan narrated: "When we heard her screaming, we got into the room and we saw mama in her own pool of blood gasping already, immediately the police were called. Iya ogbomoso was rushed to Lamode Hospital because she was unconscious. "Later, some police came in and the blade that Mama used was found gummed to the wall with blood stains. "She later became conscious the next day and she was interviewed by some people to know how her throat cut, she claimed she cut off the throat herself that nobody was there and nobody planned to kill her.” When contacted, the Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed that a 70 year old woman killed herself using razor blade.
