Ramadan: Fasting begins today *As food stuffs price stabilises in Ilorin

Indications have emerged on Wednesday that majority Muslims across the globe would today commence fasting as yesterday was the final day of the lunar month of Sha’aban.Though, some Muslims have opted to commence the fasting on Wednesday, the action which was highly criticised by several Islamic Scholars for their disobedience to the doctrines of Islamic religion.However, Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and several other Arab countries have announced that the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan would start today which authenticate majority that would fast today.Similar official announcements were made by religious authorities in Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen and Palestine.Report says the beginning and end of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the new moon.“During Ramadan, devout Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to sunset.“Ramadan this year coincides with the summer heat in the Middle East where the fast could reach 15 hours a day.“Fasting is one of Islam’s five pillars, alongside declaration of faith, prayer five times a day, alms-giving, and the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia,’’ it said.Also, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has confirmed the commencement of the fasting, enjoining Muslims to avail themselves of the opportunity to pray fervently for peace to continue to reign in the state and Nigeria at large.SuluGambari prayed that Allah would guide and guard every Muslims throughout the period of the holy month.Equally, the Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Ilorin, Kwara State has rolled out series of Ramadhan lectures organised for the fasting period, beginning with special prayers from today.According to the press release signed and issued by the association’s Secretary-General, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the programme which would begin by 4.30pm every day is opened to all members, participants and the general public.It said that the lecture would feature numbers of interesting topics drawn from various parts of the country.According to the release, topics to be treated include Islamic Concept of Change in relation to the current political situation in Nigeria; Importance of Learning and Teaching of the Holy Quran, Muslims relationship with Non-Muslims the Islamic view point; How to Manage Polygamous Home in Islam and Women and Politics in Islamic opinion.Other topics include-Youth Restiveness in the 21st century; Islamic Panacea, Corruption; bane of the Modern Society and Banking-the Right Way.Meanwhile, the Ilorin Emirate Magaji Alangua Forum at a pre-Ramadhan prayer held yesterday at the Sheikh AbdulSalam mosque, Mogaji Nda’s Compound, Ilorin by sought Allah’s protection for the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (CON).The prayer which was led by the Imam Sulaiman AbdulRaheem and assisted by other renowned Islamic clerics in the city was attended by members of the forum across the five (5) area local governments’ council of the Ilorin Emirate.AbdulRaheem prayed for God’s preservation for the Senate President, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulfatah Ahmed and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari (CFR).He called on all members of the senate, all leadership of APC and Nigerians to support the senate president in piloting the senate affairs, noting that God bestow power to whoever He wishes.The cleric enjoined Nigerians to continue to live together in peace and harmony, stressing that it is when peace reign absolute that development thrived.Suhr-o-Iftar Time (Hanafi)7:24 pm 4:13 am 18 June 17:25 pm 4:13 am 19 June 27:25 pm 4:14 am 20 June 37:25 pm 4:14 am 21 June 4
