The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold, who conveyed the directive in a letter signed on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary (General Services), Alh. M. A Shehu, said the government is disturbed by the sad news of the death of the Corp member, Ms Yetunde Idowu, whose body was discovered on a street in GRA, Ilorin. Gold said that while every life requires protection from the security agencies, corps members on national service in Kwara State deserves special care and attention because they are serving their fatherland away from their families. The state government, however, called on the commissioner to accelerate investigations to unravel the circumstances leading to the corps member's death and bring to book any culprit (s) that may have been involved in the unfortunate incident. Similarly, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olawunmi Johnson has told security agencies in the state to fish out killers of the slain corps member in Ilorin. The lifeless body of Miss Idowu Yetunde Shukurah, a serving Corps member in the state was found recently at GRA, Ilorin. The Kwara Police claimed that the late corps member, an indigene of Aiyetoro, Ogun State, was found with a broken skull and bruises but could not confirm whether it was a case of ritual killing or rape as being insinuated. The NYSC DG sent a delegation to the state to meet with security agencies and the traditional institution because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of the corp. The delegation led by the Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate Division at the NYSC headquarters, Mr. Michael Ahile, met with the Director of State Security Services (SSS), the police and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari. Addressing newsmen after the tour, Ahile, condemned the killing of the corps member, adding, ''the security agencies and the host community have the responsibility to protect corps members who are on national service". He continued: “The NYSC management received the news of the death of Miss Yetunde Idowu with a heavy heart, particularly the circumstances surrounding her death. So, the Director-General of the NYSC delegated us to come down to Kwara State to discuss with the security agencies and the traditional institution here to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of this corps member. “And so we want to condemn in very strong terms the death of this corps member and we call on the security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death and the people behind this death. Ahile, who said NYSC will not tolerate mindless killings of corps members on national assignment, called on all the security agencies and the traditional institution in this state to do everything possible to find out who killed the corps member. Receiving the delegation at the Emir's palace, the Mogaji Are of Ilorin, Alhaji Aremu Zubari, who represented the Emir, sympathized with the NYSC and described the incident as unfortunate.
