35 cars snatched in Kwara in one month – Sources

No fewer than 35 cars were snatched in Ilorin, Kwara State, at gun point in the month of May, investigation conducted by National Pilot, has learnt. It will be recalled that Ilorin metropolis recently came under siege by some suspected thugs and cultists following the manhunt launched on actors of the recent Ilorin fracas by the security operatives. This medium had recently reported that some of them had allegedly taken to robbery in order to raise fund for some of their arrested colleagues. To this end, the rate of crime in the town had reportedly increased astronomically with armed bandits on rampage every day. Recently, a six-man robbery gang struck in Irewolede area and carted away a new Toyota ‘Muscle’ and home appliances of the victim. The incident, which occurred behind a popular filling owned by a notable politician in Ilorin, it was gathered, was reportedly perpetrated by middle-aged guys. According to a relative of one of the victims, who did not want his name in print, said the gang raided all the three flats in the victim’s compound and removed the number plate of a parked car and fixed it to the snatched Toyota ‘Muscle’ to escape from the scene. Also, a Toyota Venza was reportedly snatched on the same road penultimate Thursday by another gang. According to an eyewitness account, members of the gang did however not succeed , with the operation as the snatched car veered off into gutter on Stadium Road, which made them to abandon it. However, a police source who spoke with this medium, last night hinted that last month (May) over 35 cars were snatched at the gun point in the Ilorin metropolis and claimed that their embattled owners reported at various Police Divisions across the town. ‘’The rate of crime in Ilorin has recently increased and we are worried. Though Kwara police are battle ready and we are poised to arrest criminals, the sudden car theft in the state is a serious concern to us. ‘’We remain undaunted and unfazed with this development. We will intensify more efforts in our resolve to get the state rid of crimes and criminals because in the last one month, over 35 cars were reported to have been stolen and this is alarming’’, the source said. Also, another source within the Kwara State Police Command said only last Saturday, two cars were stolen in Adewole and Irewolede areas, claiming that one of the owners of the stolen vehicles shot by the robbers. The source also added that over 35 cars were stolen in the month of May and warned the perpetrators to desist from the act, saying that the police will soon scoop on them.
