The Kwara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday ordered the suspension of five of its members in Baruten Local Government area of the state for anti-party activities.
The affected members include a two-time senator, who represented Kwara North at the National Assembly between 2003- 2011, Mohammed Ahmed, who was suspended for one year.
The list, according to a statement, which the party released to National Pilot and endorsed by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, included the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Adamu Sabi, who also bagged one year suspension.
Other affected members suspended for the same period were Alhaji Aliyu Kora Sabi and Muhammed Sunu Gofe.
The Chairman, Baruten Local Government, Muhammed Omar Bio, however got six months suspension.
The party said their suspension followed a report submitted by a panel of Inquiry set up by the state APC, adding that all the suspensions are with immediate effect.
In a chat with this medium last night, Chairman of the Panel of Inquiry, who doubles as the APC Senatorial Chairman of Kwara South, Alhaji Jimoh Balogun, revealed further that the suspension was as a result of anti-party activities by the five affected members during the last general elections.
“We have done all our findings and today (Thursday) we had a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting where a decision was taken on them”, he added
In their separate reactions to the party’s decision, Senator Ahmed Muhammed and Hon Adamu Sabi, described the issue as an internal affair of the APC in the state.
While Muhammed noted that “It’s a family affair”, Sabi said the “party is more superior and a vehicle to move everywhere you need to go. If you are then suspended by the party, who are you to complain? He queried.
