May Allocation: Again, Kwara records N2.8bn shortfall

The Kwara State Government has disclosed that it has again recorded a shortfall of N2.8billion from the Federation Account for the month of May.

This, according to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Benjamin Fatigun, who presided over the monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting, held last Thursday in Ilorin, represented N1.6 billion and N1.2billion shortfall for the State and Local Governments respectively.
To this end, Fatigun disclosed that the state government had put in palce measures to ensure prompt payment of workers' salaries as at and when due.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Fatigun remarked that the total amount distributable among the 16 LGs after deduction in line with law guiding JAAC stands at N628,829,683.55,as the committee has agreed to distribute N89,211,455.22 Exchange Gain Difference received in the month of April to assist the 16 LGs meet their financial commitment.
He explained that the fund was appropriated in line with the law guiding the local government account which include; Teachers salary; Teachers Special Allowance; LG and LGEA pension among others.
Fatigun disclosed that the 16 LGs were experiencing financial challenges, which according to him, made it difficult to meet their financial commitments due to the persistent shortfall from federation account.
He assured that the state government would continue to ensure prompt payment of pensioners and salary of workers.
