The Kwara state chapter of Trade Union Congress has tasked the state government in providing a piece of land for them to build a befitting house for civil servants across the state.

The Union chairman, Comrade Olumoh Kolawole made the request during an interview with National Pilot on Wednesday.

He said “as far as the issue of labour is concerned, we are looking at workers welfarism in terms of reputable salary and accommodation.

"One of our scheme at the national level is to make every state government provide a befitting houses for our members."

"We have sent a proposal to the state government seeking for a piece of land so that we can build houses for our teeming members."

"Shelter is the most paramount thing to every worker and if such is provided for any worker, other things will be secondary to them."

The Chairman stressed that they have submitted a letter to the Bureau of Land to this regards but they saying that they (TUC) have to pay to that effect.

He said "this is wrong because we are not asking for this land to sell but for the workforce of the state.

Kolawole, who doubles as the state chairman of Senior Civil Servants Association of Nigeria, reiterated that the government should take as a responsibility the provision of land for the Union.

The Chairman equally called on the state government to reverse the margin in the salary gap between a Director and Permanent Secretary in the ministries.

He stressed that both are civil servants with grade levels between 16-18 but the gap is too much.
