Senator elect pledges succour to Offa fire victims

The Senator elect for Kwara South senatorial district, Dr Rafiu Ibrahim, on Monday assured Owode market fire victims in Offa of adequate succour.

He made the promise in Offa on Monday while speaking with news men after inspecting shops gutted by fire at the market.

Ibrahim said he will contact relevant emergency agencies to provide immediate succour for the victims.

He said the issue would also be brought to the forefront to seek for the intervention of the Federal Government and the National Assembly.

The Senator-elect described the fire incident as a monumental loss to the people of the ancient city and the state at large.

He lamented that the incident had affected the commercial activities of the town and neighbouring communities in Kwara and beyond.

Ibrahim noted that the incident would affect the revenue drive of both the Offa local council and Kwara government.

He thanked God that no life was lost in the inferno Ibrahim appreciated the quick response of the state government and the Offa local government council for putting out the fire on time.

He urged well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to come and assist the victims. The Senator-elect noted that necessary mechanism would also be put in place to forestall future occurrence of the disaster

He promised to woo financial institutions to assist the victims to regain loss incurred.

The victims of the disaster were seen in sober mood as they also clamoured for quick intervention of all stakeholders.

Some of them however described the market as the only source of their livelihood.

The Senator elect was conducted round the market by the Chairman of Offa Local government, Alhaji Waheed Olanipekun and his counterpart from Oyun Local Government, Alhaji Jimoh Alao, Kwara South APC Chairman, Alhaji Jimoh Balogun and some sympathisers.

Recall that the inferno gutted several stalls at Owode market in Offa at the early hours of Sunday damaging properties worth millions of naira.
