Senate Presidency: Saraki gets Northern Union’s nod

More endorsements came the way of Senator Bukola Saraki over his quest to emerge President of the 8th Senate in the week following his unanimous adoption by the Northern Union.

Rising from its 4th edition of its National Conference held in Ilorin, the union through a communiqué signed by its President and Secretary of its Kwara State chapter, Mallam AbdulRasaq Yahaya and Yaya Suleiman, respectively, appealed to incoming senator-elects from the northern region to speak with one voice and give their support unanimously for the candidature of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki in his quest to become the next president of the senate

It said such move will enhance the progress and development of Northern states and Nigeria at large.

While acknowledging the contribution of Senator Saraki to national development, especially his role in the subsidy scam, the body called on the leadership of the APC to jettison the issue of zoning and adopt the idea of popular, credible and acceptable candidate capable of piloting the affairs of the National Assembly and give Nigerians bills that will put food on the table of poor Nigeria.

The communiqué reads in parts: “That the union appeals to Northern incoming elected Senators to speak with one voice and give their support unanimously behind the candidature of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki in his quest to become the next president of the senate of 8th edition of the senate for the progress and development of Northern states and Nigeria at large.

“That his worth of experience and records of achievement during his (2) terms tenure as a Governor of Kwara State combined with his experience as Chairman, Governors; Forum and his legislative experience is a manifestation of his capability to occupy the exalted position of the senate president.

“That with Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki as a Senate President, he is going to serve as a special instrumental to eresident-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari in terms of quick passage of bill from the executive arm of government considering his valuable legislative experience and who will be able to shield more light on some of issue discuss on such a Bill”.

Also, a non-political association, Ibagun Progressives in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State has also added its voice to the numerous called of Senator Bukola Saraki as the next senate president in the country.

The association stressed that if given the opportunity, Saraki would provide effective, qualitative and purposeful leadership in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the chairman of the association and the publicity secretary, Alhaji Kuranga Omomeji and Barrister Isiaka Mohammed respectively, a copy of which was made available to National Pilot.

Similarly, the APC Alanamu Central Ward, Ilorin West Local Government Area has on wednesday organised prayer in honour of Senator Bukola Saraki, calling on Allah to bequeath the position on him.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman, Alanamu Central Ward Stakeholders, Hon. Abdulwahab Omotose desrcibed the senator as having all leadership qualities required to lead the 8th assembly, calling for support from Nigerians for Saraki to clinch the ticket.

He however prayed that Allah would guide him and provide the senator the required wisdom and knowledge to lead aright and achieve success with the post.

Meanwhile, as part of effort to support Senator Bukola Saraki's Senatorial ambition, the APC, Magaji Ngeri Constituency will today, Thursday organise a prayer section to support the Kwara Leader.

In state a statement co-signed by the chairman, Alhaji Folorunsho Yellow and the secretary, Hon Lanre Dalegan, said the prayer will hold at the Emir of Ilorin's Palace, Ilorin by 3:pm.

According to the statement, the dignitaries expected at the prayer are Alhaji Ladi Hassan, Hajia Segilola Abdulkadir, Eng. Suleiman Warah, and Hon. Bamidele Aluko among others.

The statement said the prayer is also aimed at helping Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's second term in office.
